Italian Wedding Favors: Almond Favors, Tuscan Theme and Varietals
For centuries wedding guests in Italy have tossed sugared almonds, called "bomboniera" or "confetti". They signify the bitter and sweet of married life.

Jordan almonds are still a common wedding favor today (though mostly not for tossing, we guess!). They are often boxed or wrapped in tulle in groups of five, representing health, wealth, happiness, longevity and fertility.

GCDSpa.com offers a new twist on the old tradition with their almond flavored lip balm favors. Decorated favors include tags which can be personalized with the couple's names and wedding date. They have a variety of tag designs
to choose from, as well as dozens of flavors, including limoncello, champagne, pistachio gelato and more. They will even create a custom flavor just for you (how about Amaretto?) They are happy to add your personal touches to your favors so all of your wedding guests will say, "Evviva gli sposi!"

The Tuscan theme has recently become popular, as well, with vineyard images a recurring motif as well as sunflowers and poppies lending their bold colors to the wedding palette. See Tuscan design examples and ordering information here. Please visit GCDSpa.com for more details!

Other Italian Wedding Traditions:
  • Small glasses of liquor are served at the Italian wedding reception before the meal to allow guests and family to toast the new couple.

  • The dinner sometimes features more than a dozen courses, and is followed by a wedding cake served with coffee or espresso.

  • Ancient Romans broke a loaf of bread or a cake over the bride's head in a ceremony to promote the couple's future fertility.

  • Traditionally Italian weddings are not performed in May or August; August weddings were considered bad luck, and May was set aside to honor the Virgin Mary.

  • At the end of the wedding day, a glass or vase is often broken. The number of shards of glass signify the number of happy years the couple will remain married.
