Victorian Wedding Flowers and Fashion:
- Brides in the Victorian era wore flowers, often dried, in their hair or on their dresses. Orange blossoms were almost always used; white roses, lily of the valley, and white lilacs were also popular.
- Not all Victorian brides wore white; before Queen Victoria's own wedding, most brides simply wore their best dresses, with or without a veil.
- After Queen Victoria married in white, it became the color of choice for brides (though widows never remarried in white).
- Our "traditional" wedding, with bridesmaids and groomsmen, flower girls and ring bearers, and the familiar "Something old, something new, Something borrowed, something blue, And a silver sixpence in your shoe" comes to us from Victorian times.
